Meet Fellow Adventurers On The Way
The Ngorongoro Crater is a self-contained, natural wonder often called "Africa's Eden" or the "Eighth Wonder of the World." It's the world's largest intact volcanic caldera, forming a spectacular bowl-shaped sanctuary. It boasts one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa, including the "Big Five" (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and black rhino). The dense population and rare black rhino make it exceptional, the crater is a unique, self-sustaining ecosystem with distinct habitats—from grasslands and swamps to a freshwater lake and forest. This variety supports a incredible density of animals living in a relatively small, enclosed area, offering a microcosm of the East African safari experience.
Trip Itinerary
Drive earlier in the morning from Arusha or Moshi to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into the crater floor for a game drive. All of the Big Five (rhino, lion, buffalo, and elephant) live in this wonderful caldera. Others that inhabit here are zebra, hippo, wildebeest, hyena, and more. Birds include flamingos on the Soda lake, geese, storks, vultures, and more. Your lunch will be served at the picnic site in the Crater at Ngoitoktok swamp, a hippo pool.
After lunch, have another short-game drive while ascending from the crater and drive back to Arusha or Moshi in the evening.
